Sense vs Mapa: what each family app does best
Sense does more: chores, meals, native apps and a wall display. Mapa does less, with a name on every job and health records kept with the original.
Short answer
For the kids’ paperwork, Mapa is the better fit: forwarded emails wait for an adult’s OK, every job gets one adult’s name, the adults involved get reminded, and health records keep the original. Sense is the bigger app, with chores, meal planning, native iPhone and Android apps and a tablet display. Neither connects to your inbox.
Where Mapa differs
- A name on every job. One adult is responsible for each to-do or plan. You tap “I’ll handle it”, and upcoming plans with no name get flagged.
- Reminders for the adults involved. Each adult gets a reminder before something is due, by email or phone notification, whichever they choose.
- A short daily check-in, if you want it. It shows at most 3 items, and it only arrives when something needs attention.
- Health records with the original. Vaccines, allergies and doctor’s notes stay with the photo of the card, and due dates are copied from the clinician’s card. Mapa never picks a vaccine schedule or gives medical advice.
- Answers with a link. Ask “When was Leo’s last tetanus shot?” and Mapa answers with a link to the original record.
- Date changes, checked. When the school moves a date, Mapa matches the new notice to the existing plan and asks before changing it.
- Adults only. Kids don’t get accounts in Mapa. Sense gives kids their own screens, which some families will want.
- Growing up. At 18, parents can pick records to hand over, and the child accepts a copy into their own Mapa.
Where Sense wins
Sense does more. Its Premium plan covers a shared calendar, chores, routines, rewards, allowance, meal planning, recipes, document storage and medication tracking.
It has native apps for iPhone and Android, plus a web app. Sense Hub turns any tablet into an always-on kitchen display, and Kid Mode gives each child their own screen.
It takes things in from more places: forwarded emails, photos, screenshots, PDFs, voice, WhatsApp forwards, the share sheet, Siri and Alexa.
On Premium, it connects Google, Apple iCloud and Outlook calendars. Mapa’s Google Calendar and iCloud sync are still being tested.
It also has a free plan that doesn’t expire, with 10 assistant actions a month.
How each one gets your email
Here the two are closer than you might expect. Neither connects to your inbox. With Sense, you forward emails to [email protected], and Sense says it “only reads what you share or forward.”
With Mapa, each family has its own private Mapa address. You forward the school email, and Mapa reads the email text.
What happens next is different. Sense files the events onto your calendar for you. Mapa suggests events and to-dos, and they wait in the Inbox until an adult says OK.
Mapa doesn’t read attachments in a forwarded email. Snap them or upload them in the chat instead.
Sense says it doesn’t keep your original emails; its pricing FAQ says processed emails are deleted after 90 days. Mapa keeps the original with the plan, so you can check it later, and you can delete it any time. Some parents will prefer one approach, some the other.

Questions parents ask
Does Sense read my inbox?
No. Sense says it only reads what you share or forward to its address, [email protected]. Mapa works the same way, with a private address for each family.
How much does Sense cost?
As of September 2026, Sense has a free plan with 10 assistant actions a month. Premium is $6.99 a month or $59.99 a year, and one plan covers the whole family.
Does Sense do chores for kids?
Yes. Sense Premium includes chores, routines, rewards and allowance, and kids can check off routines on a shared tablet. Mapa doesn’t do chores or kid rewards.
Which is better for vaccine records?
Sense stores documents like vaccination records in its document hub. Mapa keeps vaccine and allergy records with the original photo, copies due dates from the clinician’s card and answers questions with a link to the original.
Do both parents get reminders?
In Mapa, each adult involved gets a reminder before something is due, by email or phone notification. Sense says it reminds the right person for each item.
